CRIMINAL INJURIES

The Criminal Injuries Compensation Board is an independent agency of the Ministry of the Attorney General. It is established under Compensation for Victims of Crime Act. The role of the board is to award financial compensation to victims for violent crimes committed in the Province of Ontario.

You may be eligible for compensation if:

A) You have been injured as a result f a crime of violence committed in Ontario under the criminal code offence, such as assault, sexual assault, criminal harassment, etc.
B) You are responsible for the care of a victim of a crime and suffered a loss of income or had expenses as a result of the victim’s injury or death.
C) You are the dependant of a deceased victim i.e. in the case of murder.
D) You were injured while trying to prevent a crime or while helping a police officer make an arrest.
